Through tragedy, a ray of light shined down, inspiring the creation of the WarwickStrong Memorial Scholarship
On October 26, 2018, our lives were forever changed. A multi-vehicle wreck outside of Warwick High School injured many and tragically took the lives of two Warwick students who had just begun their junior year; one being my son, Jack R. Nicholson.
The scholarship fund was created in honor of Jack, his friends directly impacted that day, our family, and the amazing community that rose to the occasion to comfort and console those impacted by this horrific and devastating tragedy.
Friends, family, our community, and many of the surrounding school districts came together, locked arms and united as one family, in love, and support of everyone affected. The best of humanity shined brightly, unconditional love, care, selflessness, generosity, and kindness.
How Scholarship Recipients are Chosen
Recipients of the scholarships are chosen based on the character traits that appropriately coined the phrase WarwickStrong. A WarwickStrong person is one that exemplifies, embodies, and personally lives out these character traits.
The scholarship is intended to honor, recognize, and celebrate students that rise to the top as WarwickStrong. Grades and college eventually come to an end, careers and money come and go, but your true character as a person stays with you always.
Being WarwickStrong is not just about what you do, it’s about who you really are, even when no one is watching. These are the people we want and need in our world today.
We ask applicants the following questions as a part of our selection process.
- What have you done for others this school year that was not required of you?
- How have you contributed to enrich or better your local community?
- How will you continue to give back to others in your community?
- What are your plans for continued self-development as it relates to character and leadership
